2022 Victorian Students’ Parliamentary Program – Conventions


Register your interest now to join in the 2022 Victorian Students’ Parliamentary Program (VSPP). 

The VSPP provides immersive opportunities that support the civic learning and active participation in democratic processes of all Victorian students through local, state and national parliamentary programs and in-school activities.  Don’t miss out, register your interest by 21 March 2022. 

School Conventions

There will be two primary school conventions and two secondary school conventions in 2022. 

One convention will be face to face at Parliament of Victoria and the other online. Schools are strongly encouraged to register their Expression of Interest for the following Conventions: 

Primary Schools’ Parliamentary Convention

1) Should the State or Federal Government have control over school education?
Tuesday 14 June 2022 at Parliament of Victoria,

and

2) Should the use of electric scooters be subject to more specific legislation?
2-3 half-days in August 2022 (dates TBC) hosted online via Zoom

The Primary School program is designed for years 5 to 6 students.

Secondary Schools’ Parliamentary Convention 

1) Should the Victorian Government retain judge alone trials for indictable offences post COVID?
Wednesday 18 May 2022 at Parliament of Victoria

and

2) Topic: Should the Victorian parliament introduce quotas to improve representation in parliament?
2-3 half-days in August 2022 (dates TBC) hosted online via Zoom

The Secondary School program is designed for years 9 to 10 students.

Teachers’ Convention - NEW

This year, a new Teachers’ Convention is being held to support the professional learning of civics and citizenship educators. Participants will be provided with training to support them to run their own student parliaments within a classroom or school setting, and will have the opportunity to network with likeminded professionals.

The Teachers’ Convention 
Should Victorian Parliament introduce law to regulate truth in political advertising – are such laws consistent with the implied freedom of political communication?
